The major gateway to Banff is Calgary International Airport. Coaches and vans operate from the airport directly to Banff Park Lodge (see booking engine below). All major rental car companies are available.
Driving Instructions from the Calgary International Airport to the Banff Park Lodge
The total driving distance is approximately 145 km/90 miles. You should plan for an estimate driving time of 2 hours, pending road and weather conditions. Please drive carefully, watch out for wildlife on the road and obey all driving warnings, speed limits etc.
You will need to stop at the Park Gates (located on the highway just after the town of Canmore) and obtain a National Park Pass. Prices vary from about $10.00 per day to maximum $70.00 per year.
When you leave the Calgary International Airport, follow Barlow Trail South until you have passed about four traffic lights or for about 5 km/ 3 miles.
Take the exit onto 16th Avenue West, direction to Banff (exit is on the right hand side).
Follow 16th Avenue West through the city of Calgary.
At the west end of Calgary 16th Avenue ends and is now called Highway 1 West. Follow Highway 1 West until you have passed the town of Canmore.
You will be required to stop at the Banff National Park gates and obtain a valid park pass.
After the Park Gates keep following Highway 1 west.
Take the second exit into Banff. This exit is called Banff/Mount Norquay. At the end of the exit, turn left and cross over the highway.
After crossing the train tracks and passing the hospital, you will find the Banff Park Lodge after the first traffic light on your right hand side.
